In 2005, Gerber introduced the proprietary blade opening concept - Forward Action Spring Technology - or F.A.S.T.
Using one hand, the blade is opened approximately ten degrees, allowing the spring to drive the blade lightening-quick the rest of the way into the open position.
This exclusive mechanism was developed by acclaimed Oregon custom knife maker Butch Vallotton, whose name graces one of Gerber's line of Assisted Opening Knives.
